Lefkara, Cyprus — The Agora Hotel has announced the successful completion of The Heritage Sustainability Project, an EU-funded initiative delivered through the fuTOURiSME programme, marking an important step forward in the hotel’s long-term sustainability journey.
Over the past year, the project has focused on helping the boutique hotel strengthen its environmental and operational practices through a combination of sustainability planning, staff engagement, and digital innovation. As part of the project’s completion, The Agora Hotel has also achieved independent verification of its sustainability management approach in line with ISO 26000 principles.
The verification reflects the work carried out across the organisation to build a more structured and measurable approach to sustainability while remaining closely connected to the identity of the hotel and the local community of Lefkara.
A key outcome of the project has been the development of a long-term Sustainability Strategy tailored specifically to the hotel’s operations and surroundings. The strategy was shaped through internal assessments and stakeholder engagement and focuses on areas including energy use, waste reduction, employee wellbeing, and the preservation of local culture and community identity.
Alongside the strategy, the hotel introduced a customised digital sustainability management platform designed for the needs of an independent hospitality business. The system allows the team to monitor sustainability performance more effectively, including greenhouse gas emissions, operational indicators, and reporting processes, helping translate long-term commitments into practical day-to-day management.
The project also placed strong emphasis on internal education and implementation. Through workshops, staff training, and structured sustainability assessments, sustainability practices have become more closely integrated into the hotel’s daily operations and decision-making processes. “At The Agora Hotel, we have always believed that hospitality should feel connected to its surroundings and the people who shape it,” said Nicodemos, Director of Business Intelligence at The Agora Hotel. “This project allowed us to build stronger foundations around that belief and create systems that support more thoughtful and responsible growth moving forward.”
The completion of The Heritage Sustainability Project positions The Agora Hotel among a growing number of hospitality businesses in Cyprus investing in more sustainable and future-focused operations while maintaining a strong sense of place and identity.
Looking ahead, the hotel plans to continue building on the work established through the project by using its sustainability strategy and digital tools to guide ongoing improvements across the business. The Agora Hotel will also continue sharing insights and outcomes from the initiative with the wider tourism sector to encourage dialogue and knowledge exchange around responsible hospitality practices.
Through this milestone, The Agora Hotel reaffirms its commitment to a model of hospitality that balances environmental responsibility, cultural preservation, and long-term sustainability within the evolving tourism landscape of Cyprus.
